Mens Gadgets: E-reader Features in Devices Like the New iPad

While the shiny tablet design of devices like the new iPad may attract many customers, others who are used to an e-reader with an e-Ink display like the Kindle may be turned off by these devices. This fact has not escaped Apple, who is trying to grab a whole new section of the e-reader market by piggybacking an e-Ink display on their hot new tablet.
E-Ink screen technology is easy on the eyes and makes it so that the screen can be read from anywhere, regardless of lighting. Amazon has mocked the backlit iPad in a poolside TV spot, and according to a recent study only 46% of tablet owners say they are using the device as an e-reader. Apple plans to outfit an iOS device with the ability to toggle between an e-Ink display for e-books and a video display for multimedia and other tasks.
